Younger daughter bravely went to school this morning and even greeted her teacher cheerily. So far, those hippy-dippy creative visualizations and affirmations seem to be working. At least I haven't been resorting to the Sleep-Relax or Valerian to escape the gremlins.
Twelfth Night is tonight, and I've promised younger daughter chocolate chip cookies to celebrate her getting through the first day of the new term. This means cheating a little, as I fob you off to two items that have amused me on other blogs.
First, I occasionally like to look in on Angry Who Fan. The humour is (how shall I put this?) a wee bit puerile and scatological at times, but this morning made me giggle and if you too have been joining in on the New Doctor debate, maybe this will tickle you too.
Second, a pal of mine in Vancouver sent me a link to this, so I'd better post it while it's still the twelfth day of Christmas. It's a bit American-centric (but what isn't?):
I need to have the house smelling of chocolate chip cookies by the time I leave the house in three quarters of an hour, so I leave you with this from Steeleye Span: Oh, Christmas is past; Twelfth Night is the last, so we bid you adieu, pray, joy in the new...
When They Go High, You Go Logo

I love a good hand-piped logo wreck. It says, "YAY TEAM!" without all that
pretentious "artistry" and/or "talent."
For instance, bakers, you *know* that ...

Hi Persephone, Thanks for the laughs (and Steeleye Span). Still chuckling about the new foetus. Glad day one went well.
i loved the Angry Who Fan (and bitterly agree)... also a good laugh from Uncle Jay and one of my favorite harmonies from Steeleye Span! (haven't heard that in years.)
a wonderful happy new year ahead for you and all our canadian neighbors!
Bonnie-Ann, and Persephone, stick with the foetus, I DO think he's going to be good. He was great in Party Animals, and RiS, and has very expressive hands. Have a feeling he might be very quirky and do young/old rather well. I just hope I don't start fancying him otherwise I'll start feeling like a perv!
well, yes, you see ... the "perv" aspect also comes into it. i may tell myself in the fantasy portion of my head that he's a 900-year old time lord, but there is that rational forebrain (damned evolution!) that will say -- but he's 26 years old! the same age as your nephew! ugh. i don't want DW to become such an anxiety inducing thing. 8 *love* DW. it's back to the fanfic for me, i guess.
You do know that fancying the Doctor is optional, don't you? The only Doctor I've fancied is DT's. Christopher Eccleston is a fine-looking fellow, but I can enjoy his performances without lusting after him, and I'm sure it will be the same with Matt Smith, especially if Stephen Moffat is doing some of the writing.
As for "perving", I take the Sociology of Families and Households approach. This was a university course in which I learned that the definition of a generation is considered 15-30 years. Therefore, I consider any fellow 15 years my senior or junior within the decent (using that word advisedly) range for romantic fantasy.
Jane/Jules, I have a duplication on one of your comments; shall I just reject it? It will come off as if I'm censoring you ("removed by blog administrator"), so I can print it if you like...
Oh don't worry Persephone, I keep having trouble posting comments on your blog (I think my stupidity rather then anything else) so if I've duplicated remove away!
15 years huh? Damn. Matt Smith is just outside at 17, which does officially make me old enough to be his mother (just). I agree Persephone, fancying the Doc isn't absolutely necessary. DT is the first one I have fancied, though I do rather like those McGann boys (I was in Liverpool when they were getting going)so Paul was a rather dishy doc I thought. I think I can cope without fancying MS, so long as Richard Armitage stays in Spooks for a while and Dougie Henshall is in Primeval...
Am more worried about the fact that the majority of my screen heros are dark haired and my spouse is fair haired. But then again his favourite pin ups are Debbie Harry and Madonna, and I'm dark haired. I wonder how we ever managed to get together...
Then there was my future sister-in-law's comment to her brother after meeting me: "I don't get it. She's got brown hair and no chest..."
i suppose i've always been in love with the *idea* of the Doctor... his passion, his energy, his timelessness... we'll have to see what we see.
like your "generation" idea ... after all, matt smith *is* legal age, and it's not like sex would do him any harm... ooops. did i say that out loud?
